Light night photography workshop

Tues 21 November 2023. 6pm - 8pm

A light night photography workshop designed to explore the creative techniques in using long shutter speed and long exposure photography settings, you'll also learn how to use your tripod for capturing festive lights and atmosphere.

Using the Anglican Chapel and London Road Cemetery as the backdrop we will explore a long exposure settings and experimental techniques to achieve a festive feel to your images. An ideal opportunity to create a personal and unique Christmas card to send your family and friends this year.

This photography workshop is suitable for all levels of photographers.

This workshop is suitable for beginners or advanced photography enthusiasts who would like to experiment with their camera. We will mainly explore long exposure photography technique, which involves capturing a single image over an extended period of time. We slow down a shutter speed setting to make moving subjects as captivated blurs while keeping stationary subjects perfectly still and sharp. That’s where your tripod comes handy. If you do not own one, please let us know and we can provide one for the duration of the workshop.

Practical information

You will need to bring a tripod, a camera with manual settings or it could even work with the most up to date mobile (your mobile camera needs to have aperture and shutter speed settings)



You are required to bring your own camera for this course and other equipment will be provided.

Course leader

This course will be led by a local photographer and tutor Iva Dyke. Iva has been working in  photography industry for over 20 years and teaching photography courses for over 15 years in the local college and privately. She currently takes images on a digital SLR, however she occasionally likes to get her old film camera out and create images on black and white film. Iva is a passionate photographer who doesn’t shy from any photographic challenge; she likes sharing her passion and helping other photography enthusiasts to achieve their perfect imagesHer teaching style is very relaxed and informal, backed with years of experience in freelancing and teaching people from various walks of life. Visitors arriving by car should park in the Charterhouse car park (London Road, Coventry CV1 2JR) and enter the cemetery through the carriageway entrance, then turn right and look left to locate the Anglican Chapel.
