London Road Cemetery tour

Heritage Open Days: London Road Cemetery

Sat 10 September 2022

Explore the beauty and heritage of London Road Cemetery: Paxton's Arboretum with one of our new self-guided tours, or join one of our bookable guided tours.

Drop into the Anglican Chapel to see this recently restored historic building and explore the Victorian landscape designed by the famous Joseph Paxton. You can pick up headphones to listen to podcasts specially designed to be enjoyed in this beautiful setting.

Optionally, join us for a bookable guided walking tour which will explore the built and natural heritage of this fascinating place. The tour moves through significant spaces, shares the stories of characters through time and explores sounds of the cemetery.

About

Arrive at the Anglican Chapel to collect information to support your self-guided tour; and this is the location for the start of the bookable guided tours.

Self-guided tour: Pick up a map and then explore the newly installed Tree Trail and Meet The Residents Trail on your self-guided tour. Bring your headphones to listen to our podcast series on your phone (or we’ll have some headphones for you to borrow). These audio experiences have been designed by local artists to be listened to in this tranquil space.

Bookable guided tour: Optionally, join us for a walking heritage tour of London Road Cemetery lasting an hour and a half led by the Historic Coventry Trust volunteer research team. The tour starts at the Anglican Chapel, moves through significant spaces and places, shares the stories of characters through time and explores sounds of the cemetery interpreted by local artist Tim Seeley. The tour includes the Nonconformist Chapel, Bier Store and Mortuary Chapel and covers both the built and natural heritage of this fascinating place.
