Cov's Big Bike Ride and Charterhouse Heritage Open Days

There is plenty to experience at Charterhouse as part of Heritage Open Days.

This event will not only offer FREE guided tours through Charterhouse to unlock its fascinating history, but you can also expect a whole host of free activities for the whole family as part of Cov's Big Bike Ride!

Learn how Charterhouse has changed over time, how it was saved by the local community and most recently restored by heritage experts thanks to National Lottery players and explore the wider heritage parkland alive with a free family friendly community festival.

Entry to Charterhouse is FREE for this event as part of Heritage Open Days! Tickets are only required if you wish to view Charterhouse at a specific time. Alternatively, just drop in on the day!

Activities include:

  • Storytelling and book signing with Coventry Children’s book author Aaron Ashmore
  • The Bewonderment Machine, a cycle powered carousel for the under 5’s
  • The Whittingham inspired orange marble run with Ludic Rooms
  • The Gardens Trust lucky dip activity
  • A QR code archaeology trail, revealing what is really beneath your feet
  • The British Cycling activity zone, Crazy bike arcade and community cycling stalls
  • Festival food and drinks from Purnell’s at Charterhouse and other street food vendors.
  • Live music, face painting and giant bubbles!

Cycle to us as part of the Coventry Big Bike Ride, leave from Broadgate arriving to the temporary bike park at Charterhouse Heritage Park for the festival.

At Broadgate it is also possible to hire a bike or get a safety check on your own bike!

Tickets are only required if you wish to view Charterhouse at a specific time. Alternatively, just drop in on the day!

Find us

By foot
You can find us on foot less than one mile from the city centre, either by walking through London Road Cemetery: Paxton’s Arboretum and across London Road, or by using the back entrance through the alleyway between 229 and 231 Humber Avenue, CV1 2AQ.

By train
We’re just a 20 minute (1 mile walk) or a short taxi ride from Coventry train station.

By bus
You can jump on the X18 (Stagecoach bus) to Stratford from Stop TS2 near Sainsbury’s in Coventry city centre, arriving on London Road right by the entrance to Charterhouse in just 10 minutes. The X18 runs every 30 minutes.

Alternatively, you can catch the 3 (National Express Coventry bus) towards Warwickshire Shopping Park from Cross Cheaping (Stop BS6) in Coventry city centre, arriving at Humber Avenue on London Road right by the back entrance to Charterhouse in just 7 minutes. The 3 runs every 15 minutes.
