Access

Cook Street Gate is an historic building (dating to the 15th century). There is a modern external staircase to provide access, which has a secure gate at the ground-floor, and a sturdy handrail. Given the staircase (although modern), we would not recommend the property to those with mobility issues, or to those with babies, toddlers, or older infants.

History

Cook Street Gate was one of 12 original medieval city wall gates, and is one of only two remaining (the other being Swanswell Gate). The building was completed around 1385. Remains of Coventry’s city walls can be found in the adjacent Lady Herbert’s Garden. Find out more about the history of the building and its restoration here.
